FLORENCE James Dodd (Dan) Daniel II, 84, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at McLeod Hospice. Mr. Daniel was born in Henry, SC, a son of the late Benjamin James Chandler and Helen D. Daniel. Mr. Daniel, a lifelong educator, coach and farmer, graduated from Lake City High School. He entered Clemson College as a cadet, earning a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering and later received his Master of Education from The Citadel. He served as a teacher in Sardis and as a teacher and coach in Johnsonville, Hemingway and Lake City. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Rogers Daniel of the home; a son, James Dodd Daniel III and his wife, Becky, of Florence; a daughter, Susan Daniel Burch, and her husband, Roy, of Florence; three grandchildren, Suzanne Burch Griffin (Kirk) of Sumter, Roy Funderburke (Burke) Burch III of Florence and Lindsay Rebecca Daniel of Florence; two great-grandchildren, Mary Margaret and Ryan Griffin of Sumter; and many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents; by a special aunt, Edna Daniel; by three brothers, Jack Chandler, Milton Chandler and Carlisle Chandler; and by three sisters, Zulene Harmon, Estelle Crawford and Mary Bruorton. Mr. Daniel, a true Southern gentleman, leaves behind a legacy of being, first and foremost, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Additionally, he was a successful educator, a devoted member of the church, and a man of unrivaled principles. Mr. Daniel was a member of Lake City Presbyterian Church. He served there in many capacities. He was most honored to serve as elder and Sunday School teacher. The Reverend Judith L. Cettei will conduct a graveside service celebrating the life of Dan Daniel at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011, at Lake City Presbyterian Cemetery (corner of Main and Church Street next to Lake City First Baptist Church), directed by Cain Funeral Home of Florence. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011, at the funeral home. Visitation will follow the interment at Lake City Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.
