James Robert "Bob" Ward, 84, of Florence, died Monday, December 26, 2011 in Florence, SC. He was born August 3, 1927 in Avondale, NC to the late Floyd and Dora Bridges Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary Geneva Ward. Bob was a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a degree in Journalism. Following many years in commercial advertising and public relations, he joined the staff of Francis Marion University in 1973 as Director of Public Information. He retired from the university in 1990 as Vice President for Development and College Relations. Survivors include: son - Scott Ward of Tallahassee, FL; daughter - Barbara Ward of Lake City, SC; and a granddaughter - Ana of Lake City. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
