IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jackie D.
Tharp
August 23, 1943 – January 30, 2017
Mr. Jackie "Jack" Dean Tharp born August 23, 1943 of Florence, South Carolina went to be with his Lord on Monday, January 30th 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. Jack was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois to his beloved mother, Rosa Lee, and father, Howard, as well as an older brother Gary. He lived in many places growing up and developed a love of traveling early on, with his fondest memories being a vacation to England. He worked hard throughout his life and mastered many careers including overseeing a large grocery store in Norfolk, VA, working for NASA, and becoming a hairdresser. He had an ardent love for antiques and a fondness of the fleur-de-lis, both of which often decorated his home. He had a soft spot for all animals and adopted many dogs throughout his life. Above all he possessed a spirit that brightened and enriched the lives of anyone lucky enough to know him. His quick wit and sense of humor taught us all never to take life too seriously. He lived and loved richly; making the world a better place simply by being in it. Those left to cherish fond memories of Jack include his daughter Theresa and son-in-law David Harper of Surfside; his son Edward and daughter-in-law Kathleen Morris of Florence; his granddaughter Gabrielle "Gabby" Morris; his nephew Gary Tharp of Rutherford, NC; his cherished friends and family in Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina; and his long haired dachshund, Jewels. He now goes to join his mother, father, and brother in the Kingdom of Heaven. A memorial service led by Pastors Lacy Gay and Ben Maynard will be held at Jack's church, Ridgecrest Baptist, on Saturday, February 4th at 1PM. The family would like to send special thanks to the loving and attentive staff at Carolinas Hospital, especially Jack's favorite pulmonologist, Dr. Ramzy Hourany.
