Obituary

A funeral service for Mr. Jack Ronald Cole, husband of Phyllis Peabody Rose Cole will be at, 11:00AM Wednesday, August 11, 2010 in Parkwood Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Tom Langston. Interment will follow in Florence National Cemetery with military honors by Florence County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Tuesday at Cain Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Andrew Wommack Ministries P.O. Box 3333 Colorado Springs, CO 80934-3333. Jack, 68, died August 6, 2010, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born August 3, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Harold W. and Emma Steckling Cole. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Marge and Helen. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: sons, Jack Christopher Cole of Florence, and John W. Rogers of Charleston; grandchildren, Lillian Inara Cole, and soon to be here Ronin Gabriel Cole; 3 stepsons and 6 step-grandchildren. Jack entered the Army shortly after high school graduation and served his country well for 20 years. As a medic he served in both Korea and Viet Nam as well as in the States. After his retirement from the Army, he worked as a nurse in the emergency room at Florence General Hospital for several years. Most recently, he had been employed by the State of South Carolina at the Palmetto Center for the past 25 years. Jack spent his last years gardening and enjoying his yard and swimming pool and until his health prevented it, he enjoyed dancing, but his real passion was family. His two near brushes with death deepened his trust in his Savior. He would frequently say, "Don't worry, God is with me" even when his circumstances seemed dire. Jack, a caring, loving husband, father, step-father, and grandfather will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Jack was a one-of-a-kind; true to himself, he never pretended to be something he wasn't. Jack was loved by all who knew him. He meant so much to so many people in so many ways.
