"Don" Allen
February 9, 1949 – January 12, 2024
Henry Donald Allen, 74, of Florence, SC, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024, at his home. He was born February 09, 1949, in Lancaster, SC but raised in Timmonsville, SC, a son of the late Jessie Lee and Ruby Lee Hill Allen. He served his country faithfully in the US Army as an Airborne Ranger, having served multiple combat tours in Vietnam. Henry had a professional career as an Electrician and was an avid woodworker who is described best as a skilled "Jack of All Trades". He attended the Gregg Avenue Church of Christ.
Don, as he was known to friends and family, faced many struggles but remained a good, faithful, and strong man throughout them all. He will be sorely missed, and the world was a better place for him having been in it.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Dalton Scott Allen, a sister, Emily Jean Floyd and a step son-in-law, Timothy Guy Barnes.
Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years, Betty Knight Hill, a son, Donald Scott Allen; a step-daughter, Stephanie C. Barnes (Timothy): two granddaughters, Ashley Noel Jakiela (Benjamin) and Monica Leigh Hartsell (Adam); three great grandchildren, Greyson, Langston, and Huxley Jakiela; a brother, Jessie Lee Allen Jr, (Gladys) and a nephew, Gary D. Allen.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in the Florence National Cemetery, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.
