George "Porgie" Bonette, Jr., 86, of Florence, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018. He was born in Timmonsville, SC, a son of the late George Clarence Bonette, Sr. and Virginia Hogg Bonette. He is also predeceased by his wife, Janie Smith Bonette, two sons, Randy Bonette and George "Bobo" Bonette, and a sister, Virginia Bonette Brown. He served in the US Army and was retired from the US Postal Service. He lived most of his life in the Ebenezer Community and was a member of the Lake Marion Baptist Church in Manning. He loved animals and was an avid gardener. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Bonette; two sons, Tim (Donna) Bonette and Martin (Lynn) Bonette, all of Florence, SC; seven grandchildren, Joedy Willis Bonette, Jason Carlon, Christopher (Larisa) Carlon, Crystal (Crystal) Bonette, Ashley Bonette, Zach (Brooke) Bonette and Jessica (Isaias) Bonette Ventura; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Celeste (Sam) Bonette Daniel; and his canine companion, Midnite. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2018, in the Chapel of Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM, just prior to the service. Burial will be at 1 PM on Tuesday, February 20 at Florence National Cemetery. The family would like to offer special thanks to his special caregivers, Ruthenia Foxe, Phyllis Hilliard and Ashley Bonette. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or to the Humane Society.
