Gary Ray Butler, 66, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Mr. Butler was born in Hamlet, NC a son of the late Reese Duvall Butler and Margaret Ruth Chavis Butler. He worked with several HVAC companies throughout his career. Gary loved gospel music and sang and played bass in the gospel group “Daybreak” for many years. He was a diehard Redskins fan and Braves fan, loved NASCAR, and enjoyed grilling and cooking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Ray Butler; brother, Richard Butler; and sisters, Margaret Louise Sessoms and Wanda Roller.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Terri Lynn Morrison Butler; son, Brandon Paul (Mercedes) Butler; daughter, Taylor Nicole Butler; five grandchildren; brother, James Butler and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to any cancer organization of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 pm Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Calcutt-Dowling Funeral Home with a memorial service to be held at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
