Obituary

Furman Barr Brown, 99, born December 18, 1925 in Kingstree, SC, on December 13, 2025, died peacefully, surrounded by his family just five days short of his 100th birthday.

Mr. Brown grew up on his beloved farm in Kingstree where he hunted, grew cotton, soybeans, timber, and tobacco. In 1985 he retired from SCL railroad after 33 years of service. He graduated from Kingstree High School and Draughan Business College. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy. Mr. Brown was a member of Highland Park Methodist church for 60 years, as well as the Retired Railroad Men's Club.

He is survived by his children, Ronald Craig Brown (Robin) and Cheryl Elaine Batson (Louis); grandchildren, Craig Brown (Lindsey), Dusty Brown (Julia), Meagan Yaken (Ryan), Brady Roberts, Daniel Roberts (Courtney), and Matthew Roberts (Maggie); great-grandchildren, Miley and Parker Brown, Emilia, Reagan, Rosie, and Oliver Roberts, Truvy Roberts, Kolton Yaken, Hampton Brown, Chandler and Baker Rollins.

Mr. Brown was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Miley Kate Brown; his brother, Charles Brown; parents, Dan and Blanche McCutcheon Brown.

A private memorial service will be held @ 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 18, 2025 which would have been his 100th birthday.

The family would like to thank his caretaker, Vicki, for the wonderful care she provided to Mr. Brown during his illness, as well as his friend, Dixie Lane.
