Francis Dominick “Frank” Shemanskis, 85, passed away peacefully on November 23rd in Effingham, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of his family. A longtime resident of Windsor, Connecticut, Frank had recently moved to South Carolina to be closer to those he cherished most.
Born on April 19, 1940, Frank grew up in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1959. Shortly after, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, beginning a journey that took him around the world. During his service in Japan, he met the love of his life, Kyoko Fukazawa, and the two built a beautiful life together. They married and raised two sons, creating a family rooted in love, loyalty, and devotion.
Frank later enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Combustion Engineering in Windsor, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. A lifelong baseball enthusiast, Frank found his greatest joy in the stands—cheering on his grandchildren at every game. He never missed an opportunity to support them, and his presence was a constant source of encouragement and pride. Frank’s humor, kindness, and gentle spirit made him beloved by all who knew him. He was a storyteller, a listener, and a steady, comforting presence in the lives of his family.
Frank leaves behind his loving wife, Kyoko Shemanskis; his sons Jerry Shemanskis and his wife Janice, and Kerry Shemanskis; his grandchildren Sierra Woodberry and her husband Jordan, Kasey Shemanskis and her partner Didier Mathelier, Samantha Shemanskis and her fiancé Devon Long, and Joshua Shemanskis. He was incredibly proud of his four great-granddaughters: Skylee Mathelier, Sage and Hazel Woodberry, and Lylah Long.
Frank was a good man—silly, caring, generous, and gentle—and he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His love, support, and stories will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
Frank’s family held a private service in South Carolina, gathering only immediate family members to honor his life and legacy. Calcutt-Dowling Funeral Home is honored to serve the Shemanskis Family.
