Florence E. Powell, 92, of Darlington, SC, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017. She was born in Chicago, IL., daughter of the late Robert E. Juergens and Alice Marie Muther Juergens. She is also predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Kirke M. Powell. She grew up in Chicago, then moved with her family to Los Angeles, CA in 1945. She attended Rosemary College and worked in a defense plant putting carburetors in airplane engines. She earned her Master's Degree from UCLA. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal and St. Anne's Catholic Church. She taught in elementary public schools for 52 years. She enjoyed playing the violin, the viola and the cello. She and her husband moved to Florence in 2008. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Louise Nagata of Florence and Ruth Inga (Fredrik) Anderberg of Norrkoping, Sweden; four grandchildren, Yu (Akiko) Nagata of Tokyo, Sinobu (Aya) Nagata of San Jose, CA., Hanna Anderberg of Stockholm, Sweden and Elisabeth Anderberg of Norrkoping, Sweden; and one great grandchild, Arata Nagata. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at St. John's Episcopal Church. A reception will follow the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or St. Anne's Catholic Church.
