Florence, SC Florence Frances Hovatter, 99, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014, at a local health care facility. She was born in Akron, Ohio on April 12, 1915, the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Wilson. She was the widow of William Henry Hovatter. She is survived by her daughter, Pat (Bill) Hovatter of Florence, SC; son, Jim (Sandy) Hickman of Lady Lake, Florida; daughter in law, Linda Hovatter of Clearwater, Florida; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a special niece, Kathy Laverdiere of Carmel, Indiana. She was a wonderful mother and led a very interesting life. During World War II, she helped build parts for the Corsair airplanes at the Goodyear Plant in Akron, Ohio. She was a Welcome Wagon hostess, active member of CB Club and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star in Southern Ohio. She also enjoyed fishing and hunting with her beloved late husband. After moving to Florence, she was a volunteer at Carolinas Hospital and loved to play cards. She was predeceased by her husband, William Henry Hovatter, her son, Edward William Hovatter, a sister Eileen Bittner and brothers, Alfred Wilson and twin brother Fred Wilson. The family would like to thank the staff at Laurel Gardens and Southland Health for their loving care. Cain Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 4:00 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron, Ohio. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice in Florence, SC.
