Dr. Farid I. Haurani, 86, of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at the Methodist Manor. Dr. Haurani was born in 1928 in Palestine, a son of the late Dr. Iskander and Olinda Njeim Haurani. He was a hematologist at Cardeza Foundation at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. Dr, Haurani directed the Jefferson branch of the National Cooperative Acute Lukemia Group B. He also made important contributions to the understanding of Iron and B12 metabolism. After retirement, he went to Paris where he worked at the Pasteur Institute on Iron and then in London at the Royal Free Hospital on Vitamin B12. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Hanna Haurani and his sister, Salma Haurani Shadid. He is survived by his sister, Aida Haurani of Beirut, Lebanon; 5 nieces including Mona S. Zakhour of Florence and 11 grandnieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 15, 2014, in the Cain Funeral Home Chapel.
