Evander “Van” Stevenson Threadgill, 97, of Florence, passed away on May 8, 2026.
Mr. Threadgill was born in Darlington, SC a son of the late George E. Threadgill and Blanche Stevenson Moody Threadgill. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class #4 and Chairman of the Transportation Ministry Team. Van founded U-Save Auto Rentals and Van’s Auto Sales, where he worked as Vice President until his retirement in 2004. He was the recipient of the Quality Dealer of the Year for 1979-1980 and 1986-1987. From 1979-1980 he served as President of Carolina Independent Auto Dealers Association. He was a member and Past President of the Low Country Model “A” Club. Van was also a lifetime member of Hampton Lodge #204 AFM, Scottish Rite Bodies, and York Rite Bodies. He was a member of the Omar Shrine and had been very active since the early 1970’s having served in many capacities including Potentate in 1995 and a member of the Caberia. In 1996 he served as Chairman of the Building Committee for the New Omar Shrine Center in Mount Pleasant, SC. He was a member and past Director of Board for the Pee Dee Shrine Club, and charter member of the Provost Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelea Hicks Threadgill; daughter, Janice Threadgill Frye; and grandson, Andy Frye.
Surviving are his son, William E. “Billy” Threadgill (Dottie); grandchildren, Angela Frye Corley (Todd), William E. “Chip” Threadgill, and Michael G. Threadgill; great-grandchild, Logan Clardy (Cullen), all of Florence, SC.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at First Free Will Baptist Church with the service to be held at 1:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Calcutt-Dowling Funeral Home. In addition, the family will receive friends from 2:00 – 6:00 pm Saturday, May 9, 2026 and 12:00 – 6:00 pm Monday, May 11, 2026 at his residence, 2424 Threadgill Drive, Florence, SC 29501.
The family wishes to thank Gail Courtney (Randy), Phyllis King, Lora Alth-Williamson, and all his other caregivers over the years. Also, special friends, Ryan Woods, Willie Hickson, and Bobby (Brenda) Rabon, as well as many others too numerous to mention.
