Obituary

Eunice Marjorie Hayes Cumbia, 91, of Florence, SC, widow of Clarence David Cumbia, Jr., died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her residence. She was born on November 10, 1920 in Smithfield County, NC and was the daughter of the late James Cullen Hayes and Annie Lee Boone Hayes of Rocky Mount, NC. Surviving are two sons, David Michael (Karen) Cumbia of Mauldin, SC; Steven Wayne (Lucie) Cumbia of Florence, SC; three daughters, Brenda (Caroll) Cumbia Cook of Highland, Illinois; Judith Cumbia of Leonardo, NJ; Marjorie (George) Cumbia Brammer of Florence, SC; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She spent her life in the care of others. First, as a dedicated wife and mother she built a wonderful home for her husband of 55 years, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also worked more than 30 years as a registered nurse. She completed her nursing training in Washington, DC during WWII and spent many years as a private duty nurse in hospitals in Rocky Mount, NC and at the McCleod Infirmary in Florence. She was especially proud of her 14 years as a staff nurse at the Crippled Children's Home in Florence. She was predeceased by three sisters, Annie Ruth Hayes Tharington, Lula Mae Hayes Nugent, and Dorothy Jean Hayes Matthews all of Rocky Mount, NC. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 26, 2011 from 6-8:00 P.M. at Cain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held November 27, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Cain Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church.
