Ethel Anna Eckerson Pettit, 88, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, April 01, 2015 at the McLeod Hospice House. Mrs. Pettit was born in Tappan, NY, a daughter of the late Floyd and Wilhelmina May Conklin Eckerson. After her marriage, they moved to Tallman, NY, where she was a member of the Tallman Bible Church and the Ladies Auxiliary with the Tallman Fire Department for over 50 years. After moving to Florence, she became a member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved doing housework and caring for people in need. She was an avid photographer and loved drawing. She is preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband, Edward Pettit, Jr; a sister, Wilhelmina Eckerson; and two brothers, John and Harold Eckerson . Surviving are her two children, Laura Pettit (Patrick) Ruffner of Florence and John Edward Pettit of Florida; four grandchildren, Michelle, Jason, David and Nicole; a great granddaughter, Emma Sophia; four brothers, George Eckerson of SC, Robert Eckerson of NY, Richard Eckerson of FL and Paul Eckerson of CA; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the Chapel of Cain Calcutt Stephens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and other times at the Ruffner's residence. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church Building Fund or to McLeod Hospice House.
