Obituary

Elizabeth (Ibby) Vera Flenniken Harper, 75, died at 1:30 AM, Tuesday, December 8, at her home in Florence, South Carolina. She was born in Sidmouth, Devonshire, England on May 29, 1940. Her parents, Warren Samuel Flenniken ll and Joan Christina Flenniken and granddaughter, Veronica Marie Harper, predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles Dillon Harper, native of Jesup, Georgia. Also surviving are her four siblings Sandra (Joel) Dekle of Florence, South Carolina, Warren (Ellen) Flenniken llI, of Fernandino Beach, Florida, Jane (Barry) Kelly of Franklin, Tennessee, and James (Donna) Flenniken of Suwannee, Tennessee; her three sons Chuck (Ginger) Harper of Watkinsville, Georgia, Jack (Lyn) Harper of Lilburn, Georgia, and Allen Harper of Florence, South Carolina; and six grandchildren. Ibby was a long-time resident of Florence where she moved after her husband's retirement from the military in 1986. She attended Wayne County High School in Jesup, Georgia and Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Georgia. As a military wife she was an enthusiastic world traveler who moved her family across continents with ease. She was also a devoted grandmother, an avid reader, loved word games and puzzles, cooking, and antiquing. A loyal and devout Episcopalian, Ibby was a founding and active member of St. Catherine's Episcopal Church and a recent inductee into the Daughters of the King, a service organization of the church. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 11, 2015 at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Florence. A burial service will be held near Jesup, Georgia in the Gardi Cemetery on Saturday, December 12 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the building fund of St. Catherine's Episcopal Church, c/o Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 3123 W. Palmetto Street, Florence, SC 29501.
