Obituary

Elizabeth "Lib" Hammett Shealy, 94, of Florence, S.C., died Monday, March 28, 2011 at Southland Health Care Center in Florence. She was born in Greenwood, S.C., a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Minnie High Hammett. She was a graduate of Columbia High School in 1936. Prior to living in Florence, Mrs. Shealy lived in Timmonsville, S.C., Hapeville, Ga., Darlington, S.C. and Columbia, S.C. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church from the late 1950's to present where she was active in the Fidelis Sunday School Class, Grace Notes Choir, Wednesday night meals and church visitation for the homebound. Mrs. Shealy's pound cake and sewing talents were enjoyed by many people in the Florence area. She will be missed by many. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Wofford Manning Shealy. Mrs. Shealy is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Rainwater and her husband David of Florence, S.C.; Gayle McMillan of Florence, S.C.; one son, Robert W. Shealy and his wife Amelia of Florence, S.C. ; one sister, Emma Peake of Columbia, S.C. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 10-11:00 A.M at Cain Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11:30 A.M. in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of her daughter, Gayle McMillan at 1709 Rutherford Drive, Florence, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, C/O Children's Program, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, S.C. 29501 Cain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
