Florence, SC Elfriede (Elfie) M. Tallant, 82, passed away on February 17, 2014 in Florence, South Carolina. Mrs. Tallant was born in Munich, Germany on January 12, 1932. Her parents were Franz Krottmeyer and Eugenia (Jenny) Sieber, and her stepfather was Otto Ebenhoch. Mrs. Tallant grew up in Passau, Germany, but because her parents were actors, she spent much of her childhood in Salzburg, Munich, Augsburg, and Berlin. She met her husband, Frank Gordon Tallant (U.S. Army, retired) when he was stationed in Passau in the mid-1950s. Colonel Tallant died in 1988. Mrs. Tallant's daughter, Jennifer Gilliam, died in January 2011. Her survivors include her sons Thomas and his wife Kathie, and Alexander and his wife Joan Erben; and her granddaughter Quenten E. Gilliam. Mrs. Tallant is also survived by her childhood friend Ingrid Britt (of Fort Washington, Maryland). Mrs. Tallant volunteered as a guardian ad litem, and she was active in national and local mental health organizations. She traveled to Germany almost every year to spend time with her relatives (Irmgard Seitz, Ulrike Reisach and family, and Manfred and Marianne Auer and family). She was devoted to her friends in Florence, who reciprocated by caring for her during her illness with devotion. Services will be held at Saint Ann Catholic Parish, 113 South Kemp St., Florence, South Carolina on Saturday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m., directed by Cain Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint Ann Catholic Parish or to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
