A funeral service for Edna Hewitt Thames will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 10, 2008 in Cain Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael Gay. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service from 10:00- 11:00AM at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her son, Ross Thames. Memorials may be made to Greenwood Baptist Church, 2401 Claussen Road, Florence, SC 29505. Mrs. Thames, 89, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Bethea Baptist Health Care. She was born January 18, 1919, in Evergreen, SC, to the late Lonnie and Amelia Woodrow Hewitt. She was the widow of Wilbur R. "Bill" Thames whom she married April 4, 1941. She was a graduate of Tans Bay High School and a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. She had previously worked for Electromotive and with her late husband at W. R. Thames Sales, Inc. Surviving are: son Ross (Sharon) Thames, of Florence; grandsons, Russell Flynn Thames of Asheville, NC, and Walter Hewitt Thames of Charlotte, NC; great-granddaughters, Muryeal Thames and Makyziah Thames; brother, Bobby Hewitt of Florence; and a special cousin, Pauline Morris of Florence, SC.
