Edmond Murphy Jones, Sr., 75, of Effingham, SC, died on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at his residence. He was born in Dillon County, a son of the late Bearl Justice "Jack" and Effie Calder Jones. Ed was retired from the US Coast Guard. He was a truck driver for Colonial Rubber and Ryder Company. Ed was an instructor of automotive diesel at Florence Darlington Technical College. Ed was a member of Bethsaida United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 160, and the breakfast club at Hub's. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Ann Willetts Jones; daughters, Sherry Jones of Chevy Chase, MD; Jacqueline "Jackie" Frye (Shane McAllister) of Timmonsville, SC; Dawn (Donald) Hardee of Round Rock, TX; Edmond (Jessamine) Jones, Jr. of Roanoke, VA. Grandchildren, Christopher (Robyn) Jones and Nicholas Vause of Timmonsville, SC; Tyler Hardee of Round Rock, TX; and Kaeya Jones of Roanoke, VA. Also surviving are his brothers, Bobby Jones of Pensacola, FL; Billy (Patsy) Jones of Florence, SC; and Aaron (Sophie) Gandy of Latta, SC; sisters, Katie Tolar, Navassa Chichester, and Willa-Jean (Bobby) Montrose, all of Florence, SC; Frances (Gene) Foxworth of Pamplico, SC; Edna Jones of Mullins, SC; Elizabeth Strickland of Latta, SC; and Geneva Medley of McMinnville, TN. Sister-in-Law, Mary Mert Jones of McMinnville, TN.; and a host of nieces and nephews, and his furry companions Merry and Bunny. He is predeceased by his father, Bearl Justice "Jack" Jones and mother, Effie Calder Jones. Brother, James "Bubba" Jones, and sisters, Gertrude Strickland, Margaret Grady, Carrie Welch, and Velma Grady. Brothers-in-Law, Stanley Jones, Leonard Strickland, Albert Strickland, Jim Tolar, Carroll Grady, Charles Welch, Chuck Chichester, and Randall Grady. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM on Sunday at Bethsaida UMC in Effingham. The funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at the church. Burial with military honors will take place on Monday, February 16, 2015, at 9:00 AM at Florence National Cemetery, directed by Cain Funeral Home.
