Douglas Alton Ard, 68, of Florence, SC, died on Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Carolinas Hospital after an illness. Douglas was born in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late Albert and Lexie Gainey Ard. Douglas is preceded in death by, in addition to his parents, two brothers, Joseph Ard and Michael Ard. Douglas was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Kingstree. He worked for many years as a serviceman for Santee Electric Cooperative. Surviving are his wife, Judith Evans Ard; daughter, Marsha (Larry) Tunstall of Florence; son Brian (Amy) Ard of Kingstree; brothers, Phillip (Bobbie) Ard of Barnesville, GA and Aubrey (Janie) Ard of Manning, SC; sisters, Bertha Ann (Don) Chandler of Kingstree, SC, Phyllis (Dennis) Earles of Cumberland Gap, TN, and Peggy (Danny) Sutton of Knoxville, TN; a sister-in-law, Mary Moore Ard of Lexington, SC; and grandchildren, Mitch and Maddie Tunstall of Florence,SC, and Austin and Michael Ard of Kingstree, SC. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kingstree, 400 N. Academy Street, Kingstree, SC, 29556. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
