Obituary

A funeral service for Dorothy Louise McGill, wife of Frank McGill, will be at 2:00PM, Sunday, October 12, 2008, in Cain Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Robert Norris. The committal will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. McGill, 76, died Thursday, October 9, 2008, in a local hospital. She was born May 3, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Louis and Nora Evans Mitchell. Louise McGill was a child of the depression era. But she didn't allow the times to shape her outlook nor her future. She had loving parents who instilled in her the virtues of hard work and GOD. This served her well as she grew into a self made business woman. She was a wife and mother. She had 4 sons and 8 grandchildren. She counseled many people from the average mill worker to a troubled young man who turned his life around and by her mentoring became a Vice Admiral in the U.S. Navy. He attributes his success to her caring and mentoring. She was a fantastic mother to many who were not her own offspring but who flocked to her side nevertheless. She treated them with the love and kindness in which she was known for. She touched many lives throughout the country and age was never an issue for her for those who needed her help. She will be missed by many and her influence will continue to be felt even after her passing. This world was made better by her being in it. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are: sons, Darin (Sally) McGill of Baltimore, MD, Ron (Cheryl) McGill of Florence and Ricky McGill both of Florence, SC and Alan (Julie) McGill of Darlington, SC; sisters, Dinah Tilley, Shasha Mitchell and Fatima Mitchell all of Alexandria, VA
