Donald Vincent Sorensen, 88, of Florence, S.C., died Monday, October 31, 2011 at Laurel Gardens Assisted Living in Florence. He was born in Fayette, New York, the son of the late Vincent and Hazel Swenson Sorensen. Following high school Donald joined the U.S. Navy where he retired as Master Chief in 1972 with 30 years service. After his retirement he taught at Florence-Darlington Technical College for 14 years. He is predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Weyburn Sorensen and a son, Lester Weyburn Sorensen, both passing away in 1995. He is survived by his wife Beatrice Platz Sorenson of Florence, S.C.; one daughter, Dorothy "Dolly" (Kyle) Kienholz of San Diego, California; one son, Duane V. Sorensen (Barbara) of Florence, S.C.; two sisters, Hazel Barnett of Deland, Florida; June Pontius of Waterloo, N.Y.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Ann Rucker, his east coast daughter. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 6-8 P.M. at Cain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Cain Funeral Home.
