Dr. Domenic John DeMichele, M.D. Ph.D., 60, of Florence, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at McLeod Hospice House following a prolonged illness. He was born April 21, 1951 in Utica, NY to the late Joseph and Mary Johanna Urgo-DeMichele. Dr. DeMichele received his B.S. in Biology from Syracuse University. He received both of his Doctorate degrees from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C., where he completed his medical residency in neurology. He then went on to complete a fellowship in neuroradiology at the National Institute of Health, or NIH, in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. DeMichele practiced neurology/neuroradiology in Florence, SC from 1990 until 2011, upon which time health issues forced him to close his practice. Aside from being an incredibly accomplished physician, as well as a Florence County Constable, Dr. DeMichele enjoyed fishing, target shooting, boating, photography, playing guitar, and loved the Beatles. He will be remembered as a wonderful doctor, loved by his patients, who proved you can still be brilliant while practicing medicine in blue jeans; the adoring father who loved his daughter more than anything in this world; and the incredibly talented man whose presence made a difference in so many lives. He will be greatly missed by his many patients, staff, friends, and family. He is survived by daughters, Kristen DeMichele and Carrie (Jason) Rowe and grandchildren, Dylan and Evan Rowe, all of Florence; sister - Mary Ann (Robert Allen Sweet, M.D.) DeMichele-Sweet, Ph.D., of Pittsburgh, PA; brother - Joseph DeMichele of Utica, NY; nieces - Eve, Sadie, Maya and Laurel; aunt - Aunt "D" Urgo of Utica, NY; cousin - Michael Urgo of Utica, NY; and great-aunt - Mary Butitta of Utica, NY. A private memorial service will be held in upstate New York at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina 225 S.
