Diego Jose De Jesus-Vega, 98, of Bishopville, SC, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. He was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Juana Vega and Juan De Dios De Jesus.
He is a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army where he played the trumpet and basketball. He also served in Panama where he tested agent orange. He was a Mason and a member of the Catholic Church of Villa De Capri in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He worked for the government of Puerto Rico and also for private industry. He loved music and was a fan of big band music in particular. He liked politics, loved dancing, western and fighting movies, was an avid reader and was a Yankee's fan.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Florencia Mendez Ruiz and daughters Haydee F. Johnson and Candy Kemp; granddaughter Sonia Johnson; Grandsons Waylon Kaufman, Edward Bigelow; nephews Edgardo Cubano, and Edwin Cubano along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
