In Loving Memory of David Martin Watford
David Martin Watford, age 55, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away on 10/5/2025,
surrounded by friends and family. David was widely known for his warmth, kindness,
and friendliness. From the first moment you met him, you were immediately touched by
his genuine care and love for others. He possessed rare gifts of empathy, generosity,
and warmth that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
David was born in Darlington, SC, the beloved son of the late Martin John Watford and
Sandra Jean Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his great-nephew,
Ellison Thomas Jones. He is survived by his children, Kellan Everett Watford and Holly Lauryn Watford;
his brothers, Matthew G. (Alison) Watford and George (Tonya) Ward, Jr.; and his sister, Donna (Kevin) Stanton.
As an athlete, David stood out for being faster, stronger, and tougher than most. Despite
his abilities, his warmth and good-natured spirit made everyone feel included, never as
though they were competing against him. Even at his best, he made others feel
included – like they were running right beside him.
David was a devoted brother, always looking out for his siblings and striving to help
them succeed. As an uncle, he cherished his nieces and nephews, offering
encouragement, sharing in their triumphs, joking with them, and supporting their
adventures. They admired him not only for his fun-loving nature but also for his
kindness and genuine care.
David was an exceptional friend. Countless people considered him their best friend,
touched by his boundless love, loyalty, and how he showed up when it mattered the
most. He was always there, walking alongside those close to him through both the highs
and lows of life.
As a father, David's pride and joy shone whenever he spoke about his children. His love
for them was deep, constant, and filled with happiness. He treasured every moment
with them and eagerly anticipated the next.
David was a passionate music lover with an impressive knowledge spanning genres
and generations. He enjoyed discovering and sharing great music with others, a
passion that few could match.
As an educator, David formed extraordinary connections with both staff and students,
particularly the latter. Walking the school halls with David felt like accompanying a local
hero – students and staff alike lit up when they saw him. He was an inspiring role model
for the children whose lives he touched.
David was renowned as a jokester and prankster. His infectious sense of humor and
energetic spirit could light up any room. With impeccable comedic timing, he could bring
a smile or laughter to anyone, no matter how tough.
David was a man of sincere and steadfast faith. Though not perfect, his love for God
and others was genuine, humble, and gracious.
Though we feel a deep loss in David's absence, we are profoundly grateful to have
known him. While we mourn his passing, we also rejoice in the assurance that David is
in Heaven, where God has welcomed home one of the finest youth leaders and servant.
Memorials may be made to Delmae Sunshine Fund that helps support staff that are
recovering from injury or illness. After his kids, Delmae Elementary School was his
heart and soul. As they supported David during his time of need, he would like to
support Delmae back in death.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.
