David Nelson Tart, 78, of Florence, SC, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at McLeod Hospice House.  He was born in Johnston County, North Carolina, a son of the late Leo Haid Tart and Rose Marie Usher Tart.  He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Monika Marie Tart, in October of last year.

Dave served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1964 and was stationed at Shaw Air Force base in 1960 and the Philippines in 1963.  He came to Florence with Sears, Roebuck and Company around 1968. He also flew freight and was partial owner of Pee Dee Freight located at the Florence airport in the early 70's. Dave served as COO at Dilmar Oil Company, and was also the company pilot for many years.  He loved spending time on the boat with his grandchildren, and flying.

He is survived by his brother, Ronald Wayne Tart; a daughter, Natalie Dawn Tart Hooker (Mark); a son, Nelson Tart (Jenni); and three grandchildren, Drew Kailey Hooker, Grayson Hooker and Elvie Tart.

A memorial service directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Palmetto Street Church of God. The family will speak to friends following the service.

Burial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 211 Irwin Dr, Newton Grove NC 28366.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Ronald Wayne Tart, Ursula Becker, Dr. Rao, Nurse Amy and the rest of the staff at McLeod Cancer Center and, MUSC Cancer Center for their love and support.
