Obituary

David William Keller, Jr. peacefully passed away on January 14.  David was born in Orangeburg, SC in 1939 and spent the majority of his life in Florence, other than his years at the University of South Carolina for both undergraduate and law school.  Those that knew David understood that he did not do things halfway.  He approached his life and interests with passion and gusto -- be it training the family dogs, fishing, cheering for Super Bowl teams, riding motorcycles or flying airplanes.

As an attorney for more than 45 years, 35 with his own firm McGowan, Nettles, Keller and Eaton, David's professional life centered around helping those in his community from legal matters to serving in various public posts. David was a member of the S.C. House of Representatives, president of the Florence County Bar Association and served as a Florence County assistant solicitor, a S.C. highway commissioner, a member of the S.C. State Development Board and a member of the Florence County Regional Airport Commission.  During retirement, David enjoyed his hobbies but also stayed connected to the legal world by coaching mock trial student teams. Also, he channeled his love of flying into missions for Mercy Flight and Angel Flight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn Davis Keller and David William Keller.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sunny Keller, his daughter Genna (Dave) Delmonte of Atlanta; stepson Christopher (Nicole) Neal of Florence and stepdaughters Courtney Brown of Virginia Beach and Amy Bryan of Pawley's Island and his sister Frances (John) Ligon of Charleston and nieces Carrie Finch of Mechanicsburg, PA and Lauren Farren of Chattanooga.  David is also survived by eight grandchildren whom he adored:  Will Delmonte; Carson, Quinn and Jensen Neal; Hagen Brown and Mary Grace, Sara Hunter and Caroline Bryan.  A memorial service, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, will be held on Friday, January 18th, 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with family receiving visitors immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Angel Flight or the Florence Humane Society.   Angel Flight, 2000 Airport Rd Suite 227 Dekalb Peachtree Airport (PDK) Atlanta, GA 30341. Angelflightsoars.org.  All gifts will be directed to the South Carolina chapter. Florence Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 4808, Florence, SC 29502.  Florencehumanesociety.org.
