David Lamar Johnson, 69, of Pamplico, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. He was born January 5, 1945 in Horry County, SC to the late John A. "James" and Altha Watson Johnson. Lamar was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Eli Johnson. Lamar served his country with the US Navy. Lamar was the Public Works Director of the town of Pamplico, prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Pamplico Masonic Lodge #324 and of the Shriners Provost Guard. Lamar loved his family, fishing, bowling and golfing. Survivors include: 2 daughters - Denise Finklea of Florence, SC, Shannon (Robert) Anderson of Florence, SC; son - Todd Johnson of Alaska; 4 grandchildren - Lauren Anderson of Goose Creek, SC, Hannah Anderson, Jacob Finklea, Gabriel Finklea, all of Florence, SC; 2 sisters - Joyce (Legrand) Flowers of Conway, SC, Marilyn (Timmons) Hoffmeyer of Florence, SC; 3 brothers - James (Mary) Johnson of Pamplico, SC, Ronald Johnson of Moncks Corner, SC, Jerry (Mary) Johnson of Pamplico, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 5:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 4 - 5:00 PM just prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House or to the Florence Area Humane Society.
