Obituary

David Thomas Horan passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 94 years and six months.  For those who knew him well, he earned those extra six months and would want them credited to him. He died peacefully in Florence, SC, where he spent the last two years living in a cottage down the street from his son, Seth, and daughter-in-law, Charla.

David was born at his parents' home at 20 Fairbanks Road in Milton, Massachusetts, on September 22, 1931. He was the second son and third child of Albert R. Horan, Sr. and Ruth Wentworth Fowler Horan. He graduated from Huntington Preparatory School in 1951 and attended Tufts University for two years before enlisting in the United States Army in 1954. He served as a Specialist Third Class during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. Following his service, David began a long and varied career as an electrical engineer and technical writer. Between 1956 and 2001, he worked for several prominent companies, including IBM, Grumman Aerospace, Raytheon, and DEC. He concluded his career as a contract writer for his own firm, WesCon Associates.

David was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was known as "Uncle David" to his many Wilmarth, Horan, Haley, and Canova cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Althea Wilmarth, Albert R. Horan, Jr., Florence Haley, and Mary Canova; and his grandchildren, Kenneth Hood III and Amy Hood.

He is survived by his children: Diana Foster (Scott), Nancy Hood (Steve Bruce), Lisa Beroud (partner Bill Comstock), and Seth Horan (Charla). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Zachary Horan, Julia Horan, and Sofia Beroud; his great-granddaughter, Mia Deiuliis; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

David will be buried with military honors at the National Cemetery in Florence, SC, on his birthday, September 22, 2026.
