David Norman Gore, Jr., entered his eternal rest on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at his residence at the age of 82. He was born on October 25, 1931, in Tabor City, NC, a son of the late David N. Gore of Tabor City, NC, and Cletus Edwards Gore of Georgetown, SC. After graduating from Tabor City High School, class of 1950, he served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1954. As a young man, family and friends in Tabor City, NC, called him Norman, however once he was out of military service and came to Florence, he was known by friends here as Dave. He came to Florence and graduated from Carolina College of Commerce. After working at Sealtest Dairies for eight years, he joined the US Postal Service from where he retired in 1991. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. After retiring, when he wasn't gardening, he volunteered in many areas, including AARP and NARFE, where he served as treasurer since 1998. He is predeceased, in addition to his parents, by a daughter, Mauri Megan Gore; a granddaughter, Olivia Nicole Gore; two brothers, W.L. Gore of Tabor City, NC, and John Nicolas Gore of Alexandria, VA; and his sister, Erma Gore Wright of Florence, SC. He is survived by a son, David Norman Gore, III, of Columbia, SC; two grandsons, Thayer Andrew Gore (Hanna and Hayden) and Thatcher Ian Gore, both of Timmonsville, SC; two sisters, Peggy Gore Branch (Smitty) of Ocoee, Florida, and JoAnne Gore Sarvis of Loris SC.; a brother in law, Malcom Wright of Florence, SC; five nieces and three nephews, Steve Wright (Sherry) of Hartsville, SC, Gaye Wright Erwin (Kevin) of Florence, SC, Suzy Wright Green (Brian) of Anderson, SC, Stan Sarvis (Roni) of Loris, SC, Amelia "Amy" Sarvis Mincey (Junior) of Loris, SC, Lynne Branch Milner (Mike) of Ocoee, FL, Shanna Branch Allen (Mike) of Jamul, CA, Geoff Gore (Susan) of Yorktown, VA.; as well as nine great nephews and three great nieces. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Cain Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Florence National Cemetery, directed by Cain Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Gideon Bibles, at Florence Gideons East, P.O.
