David Varian Blagg II died March 21, 2012 at Heritage Home in the loving presence of his long time companion, Carole Morgan Goff. During a long period of declining health, he was devotedly cared for by Carole, his son, Alex, and the staff of Heritage Home. David was born June 7, 1944 at Drew Air Field, Tampa, Florida, to David Varian Blagg I and Sara Margaret (Nowels) Blagg. He spent most of his youth in Ohio, graduating from Vandalia-Butler High School and Hiram College. He earned master's degrees from Oberlin College and Duke University and pursued a career in medical administration. A scholar and a gentleman, lover of classical music, David was a trusted and respected mentor to many; volunteer for the medical and arts communities; a man of great wit; barn storming conversationalist. He will be missed dearly by family and friends. Predeceased by his first wife, Janet Kay Simcox in 1973 and his father, David Varian Blagg I in 1997, David is survived by his companion of 18 years, Carole Morgan Goff of Florence; his mother, Sara Blagg, Concord, NH; son Alex Blagg and companion Debbie Frye, Lancaster, SC; daughters Emily Lybrand, Pelzer, SC and Sara Yanes, Acworth, GA; four grandchildren; one great granddaughter; brother Noel Blagg and wife Paula, Lenox, MA and sister, Janet Liptak and husband John, Contoocook, NH; a nephew and three nieces. A memorial service will be held April 11 at 7:00 pm at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 3123 West Palmetto St., Florence, SC.
