Obituary

Florence, SC Rev. Clifford Wallace Gade, 78, of Florence, was called home to his eternal rest, Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in Florence, SC. He was born November 10, 1934 in Chicago, IL to the late Lewis and Dorothy Hellis Gade. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Rev. Gade was a pastor of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod for over 50 years, serving congregations in Canada, Wisconsin, Virginia, California and retired from Incarnate Word Lutheran Church in Florence, SC. During his tenure as Pastor he held several offices at the District Level in Wisconsin and South Carolina. He served his country with the Marine Corps from 1952 - 1956, including service in Korea. He continued service on behalf of veterans as a life member of the American Legion and member of American Legion Post 1 currently and previously served as Commander American Legion Post 160 in Effingham, SC. He was also a life member of the Marine Corps League, having held several offices both in Durham, NC and Florence, SC, which included: Chaplain; Membership Chairman; Commandant of Detachment 410 in Florence for six years, during which he originated and established the Pee Dee Area Patriotic Parade, the Veterans Honor Guard and served on the initial committee for the Florence Veterans Park where he served also as Chairman of the Monuments Committee. Rev. Gade was a life member of the V.F.W., holding membership in Post 3181 and having served in various offices including: Jr. Vice Commander, Chaplain, Adjutant, Judge Advocate, Quartermaster, Newsletter Editor, Computer Consultant, Programmer and Maintenance. He served as Commander of the Pee Dee Area Veterans Advisory Council for three years and also served as Chaplain with the Civil Air Patrol in Virginia and in California as Deputy Wing Chaplain totaling ten years of service. Survivors include: wife of 53 years - Heidi S. Gade of Florence, SC; children - Dorothy Gade of Florence, SC, Werner (Susan) Gade of Waunakee, WI, Stephen (Ronda) Gade of Midland, MI and Rebecca Harrington of Houston, TX; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, March 18, 2013, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Florence. Interment will follow at Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 10:30 am-12:00 pm at St. Lukes and fellowship will follow the cemetery at Incarnate Word Lutheran Church in Florence until 4pm.?
