Obituary

A memorial service for Charlie William Sports will be at 2:30PM Wednesday February 3, 2010 in the Forest Lake Congregation Jehovah's Witness conducted by Elder Clarence Dean. Mr. Sports, 84, died Friday January 29, 2010, in a local nursing home. He was born July 25, 1925 in Georgetown, SC to the late Charlie Wright and Mellie Gibson Sports. Charlie served in the US Army during WWII landing in Normandy and fighting in battles in Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. He received the EAMET Campaign Medal with Five Bronze Service Stars among his decorations. He was retired in 1981 from Vulcraft and was a member of the Forest Lake Congregation of Jehovah's Witness. Surviving are: sisters, Margie Lee and Mattie Calcutt both of Florence, Bertha Purvis of Waynesville, NC and Margaret Hyman of Effingham; brothers, George Sports of North Charleston, and William D Sports of Effingham and a number of nieces and nephews.
