A funeral service for Mr. Charles Lanier Howard Sr., husband of the late Doris McKenzie Howard will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday June 14, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Mike Mills, Rev. W.L. Collins, and Rev. Daniel Inabinet. The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 PM at the church. Interment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church 915 Cherokee Road Florence, SC 29501 or Ascension Hospice 1303 W. Evans St. Florence, SC 29501. Mr. Howard, 83, died June 12, 2009, in a local health care facility after an illness. He was born August 4, 1925, in Timmonsville, SC, to the late Rufus Fulton and Olive Truett Howard. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Florence V.F.W., American Legion, and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. After representing his country in the invasion of Normandy, and obtaining three Bronze Stars, he went on the work for DuPont, and the Florence Fire Department. Survivors include: sons, Charles L. (Joan) Howard Jr. of Murrells Inlet, and Wayne (Karen) Howard of Florence; daughter, Denise (Kenneth) Collins of Florence; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
