Obituary

FLORENCE A funeral service for Mr. Charles Brooks DuBose, Sr., husband of Glenda Breeden DuBose will be at 2PM, Saturday May 15, 2010, in St. Paul United Methodist Church in Florence, conducted by Rev. Dane Morehead. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church PO Box 5446 Florence, SC 29502. Mr. DuBose, died Thursday May 13, 2010 in Florence. He was born November 11, 1938 in Columbia, SC to the late Carroll Bunard and Miriam Joyner DuBose. Charles was a Charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He lived with his family in Charleston, SC as a young boy before moving to Florence. He attended Florence public schools and graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1956. After graduation, he joined and proudly served in the US Navy, receiving an honorable discharge after his service. Upon returning to South Carolina, he attended The University of South Carolina. He returned to Florence and married his high school sweetheart, Glenda Gail Breeden on January 3, 1959. Charles owned and operated DuBose Insurance Agency for 50 years and was a leader in the Insurance industry. He was in the Life Underwriters Association, Health Underwriters Association, and had many other accomplishments. He was a leading producer, qualifying for and going on over 30 company conventions. He has served as Chairman for the party to elect Strom Thurmond, was a Sled State Constable, Chairmen for March of Dimes, Mason, Shriner and member of the Royal Order of Jesters, a licensed private pilot, appointed by the Governor serving 18 years on the Liquified Petroleum Gas Board, and was in the SC Shaggers Hall of Fame. His wife, three sons and their families were his whole life and world. His comment was "We had a great time, made a lot of friends and for two high school sweethearts, did OK". Charles was a loving friend, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was always entertaining everyone with his many stories. He was known as "Pop" to his seven grandchildren and loved spending time with them. His hobbies included travelling, fishing, hunting, playing golf (2 holes in one), being at Belle Isle, his lake house, his family and friends. Charles never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. Surviving, along with his wife, are his three sons, Charles Brooks DuBose, Jr. (Esther), James Carroll DuBose and David Wesley DuBose (Melanie); his seven grandchildren, Laney, Brooks, Brice, Tyler, Breeden, Grace and David DuBose.
