HARTSVILLE, SC Charles Heyward Byrd, 73, of Hartsville, SC died Thursday, December 13, 2012 in Florence, SC. He was born March 31, 1939 in Hartsville, SC to the late Albert Henry and Dell Robbins Byrd. Mr. Byrd was a retired veteran of the United States Army. He served four tours in Vietnam and received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star and two Vietnam Cross of Galantry with Palm medals. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sisters - Betty Ruth Carroll-Byrd and Patti Mary Jordan; brothers - Bruce Byrd, Albert H. Byrd and Lynn Byrd. Survivors include: wife - Ella Beth Smith Byrd of Hartsville; son - Troy (Mechelle) Byrd of Florence; grandchildren - India A. Byrd and Ethan T. Byrd; brothers - Bill Byrd and Williard (Faye) Byrd both of Hartsville; sister - Rosa (Reese) Houston of Hartsville. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 17, 2012, at Florence National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cain Funeral Home 512 W.
