A memorial service for Charles Guy Blankenship , husband of Lenore Barefoot Blankenship, will be at 11:00AM Friday December 4, 2009 in Cain Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Daniel Inabinet. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM Thursday at the funeral home. Columbia, SC 29169, or The Gideons International, PO Box 922 Florence, SC 29503. Mr. Blankenship, 83, died Monday November 30, 2009, in a Rock Hill , SC hospital. He was born,January 10, 1926 in Florence, SC, to the late Guy Clifford and Motie Hewitt Blankenship. He was also predeceased by a son, Guy Ellis Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship graduated from Florence High School, attended Clemson University before joining the Navy, then finished college at Duke University. He retired from Carolina Power and Light, now Progress Energy, after 40 years of service. Guy was a member for over 60 years of First Baptist Church, active in Sunday School and served as a Deacon. He served with the Red Cross Disaster Team, was a life member of the Florence Optimist Club and a very active member of the Gideons. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 61 years, are: sons J. Wallace "Wally" (Karen) Blankenship of Rock Hill, SC and Steven G. (Vicki) Blankenship of Timmonsville; daughter in law, Susan "Sue" G. Blankenship of Florence; grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Brandon (Karen) , Andrew, Renee and Victoria Blankenship and Debby (Terry) Johnson; great granddaughters, Meagan and Natalie Johnson; brother, John E. (Linda) Blankenship of Florence.
