Cecil Curtis Gray, 81, of Florence, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, January 17, 2024, surrounded by his family. Cecil was born on December 12, 1942, to the late Charlie and Eunice McCutcheon Gray in Florence, SC. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Elizabeth Yarborough Gray and a brother, Charles Alan Gray.
Cecil was a graduate of the class of 1960 of McClenaghan High School. He served his country in the Army National Guard and worked for Dupont for over 40 years and was the owner/operator of Gray's Florist. Cecil was an avid golfer and was a member of the Crossing Golf Course and of the Tri-County Seniors Golf Club. He coached baseball for all 3 of his sons and had a large impact on many kids at Greenwood Baseball. Cecil was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Outreachers Sunday School Class, the Southside Celebration Choir, was on the Acts 1:8 Mission Council, and he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Gray; sons, Kevin (Lynn) Gray, Kenny (Dawn) Gray and Kipp (Trina) Gray, all of Florence; a step-son, Clem Coleman of Florence; grandchildren, Jessica, Curt, Sarah, Taylor (Daniel), Reagan, Nicholas (Dargan), Spencer (Emily), Annsley, Maggie, Ashley, Victoria and Evan; his siblings, Dennis Gray and Betty Poston, both of Florence; and a sister-in-law, Fran Gray of Florence.
A funeral service, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Southside Baptist Church, with Entombment to follow in the Mount Hope Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the church just prior to the service.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to his caregiver, Yolinda Goodman and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for the special care given to Mr. Gray.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1356 Pineland Drive, Florence, SC 29505.
