A memorial service for Carroll Eugene Connelly Jr., will be at 4:30 PM, Saturday August 1, 2009, in Cain Funeral Home Chapel. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908, www.saintjude.org, or 1-800-822-6344, where a tribute fund (#24143824) has been established with three options for donations. Mr. Connelly, 63, died July 27, 2009, in a local hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Nichols to the late C. E. Connelly Sr. and Miriam Walker Connelly. He was also predeceased by a brother, James Connelly, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant and sister, Carolyn Elvington of Fair Bluff, NC. Mr. Connelly was a graduate Campbell College, Buies Creek, NC and had business interests in Florence and Myrtle Beach. He was a well known motivational speaker and was a highly respected presenter at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings throughout the region. He has been credited with assisting hundreds of substance dependent individuals cope with and overcome addictions during his long years of service to AA. He was a former school teacher and nursing home chief executive officer who later trained as a corporate sales representative and worked for more than 20 years as a consultant on plant and factory sanitation systems. He assisted some of the largest businesses in the region in setting up and maintaining their sanitation systems. Surviving are: daughters, Angie Davis of Loris, Page Watson of Greenville, SC, Jena Miller of Conway, and Stephanie Connelly of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Abby Bindner, Miles, Amelia, and Anne Connelly Watson, Parker, Nolan, and Brinkley Miller; sister, Genny Star of Charleston, SC.
