A funeral service for Bruce Emory Campbell Jr., will be at 11:00am, Friday, June 26, 2009, in Pisgah United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Pamela Ledbetter. Interment with military honors by Florence Veterans Honor Guard in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM Thursday June 25 at Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice PO Box 100551, Florence SC 29502-0551. Mr. Campbell, 84, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at McLeod Hospice House after a long illness. The oldest of 5 siblings, he was born November 27, 1924 in Newport, TN to the late Bruce E. and Millie Lovell Campbell. He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Lela Mahaffey Campbell and brothers Harold (Newport TN) and Billy Campbell (Jonesboro, TN). Mr. Campbell was a salesman for the trucking industry for over 35 yrs., moving from Charlotte, NC to Florence in 1956. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he served as an Usher and Men's Sunday school teacher. He was a Charter Member of Oakdale Country Club serving on the Board of Directors for several years. He was Club Champion in 1965 and first runner-up in several other club championships. He was a member of the SC Men's Golf Association; Past President of SC Traffic Club; and Charter Member of Florence Breakfast Optimist Club. Mr. Campbell served his country andwas a WWII Veteran in the US Army's 159th Engineer Combat Battalion under General George S. Patton in 1943 until the war ended in 1945. His family, friends, golf, fishing, NASCAR, Braves Baseball and the Tennessee Volunteers were his passions in life. Mr. Campbell is survived by his only daughter, Nancy Campbell Williams of Lexington, SC; two devoted grandsons Chad Thompson and Tyler Campbell Williams also of Lexington, SC; great-granddaughter Kalli Brice Burke and her mother Kayla of Lexington, SC; sister Carol Williams of Knoxville, TN; sister and brother-in-law Jean and Joe Rubisch of Picayune, Mississippi. The family would like to thank Linda and Darrell Jones for all their love and support with Bruce and Lela over the years; Monda and Billy Griffin for all their support, love and devotion; Wayne and Gwen Mahaffey for all their prayers and support; Carol and Tom Doty for their devotion and friendship; Dr. Gilliam Skinner and his staff; McLeod Home Hospice staff; Dr. Shah, nurses and staff at McLeod Hospice House for their compassion; McLeod Home Health; Healthsouth Rehabilitation and Mary and Ed Williams and Elizabeth Williams for all their love and support, Bob and Laura Hudson for their support, Dan Farrow for his friendship and support Frank Locklair, Debbie Voltz Moore and all the "Facebook" friends for their support and Lisa McDonalds and Betty Hughes, Mr. Bruce's devoted caregivers.
