**Obituary for Bobby James**

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby H. James, who left us peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the age of 90. Bobby was born on August 19, 1935, and lived a life full of service and dedication to his community and country.

Bobby proudly served in the U.S. Navy and the South Carolina Army National Guard, laying the groundwork for a life dedicated to public service. He began his career in law enforcement with the Darlington Police Department, retired from the Darlington County Sheriff's Department as Chief Deputy, and went on to serve as Head of Security at the Darlington Raceway. Bobby also worked as a private investigator, and served as an investigator for the 4th Circuit Solicitor's Office before retiring again as Chief Bailiff for Darlington County. His commitment to his work and the safety of his community was evident throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Shelby Frye James; son, Timothy D. Frye; two infant sons, Steven Craig James and Bobby Hershel "Shel" James, II; daughter, Rita James; brothers, Parmalee James, Orville James, Norton James, Huxley James, and Richard Earl James; and sister, Lavinia "Sister" Page.

Bobby will be dearly missed by his loving family. He is survived by his daughters, Stacey Howle and Rhonda Calcutt, along with his sons-in-law, Andy Calcutt and Danny Howle. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Lori Butler, Sarah Howle, Gabriel Howle, and Kathryn Howle, and as a great-grandfather to Linsey Butler, Alison Butler, and Arabella Butler. He is also survived by his sisters, Dottie James Rogers, Loretta James Leonard, and Patricia James Jones.

Visitation will take place at Black Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday January 6, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon, allowing friends and family to gather, share memories, and celebrate Bobby's life. Following visitation, Bobby's funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at 3:00 P.M. in Zion Cemetery in Galivant's Ferry directed by Calcutt-Dowling Funeral Home.

Though Bobby is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness, service, laughter, and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We invite friends and family to join us in honoring a remarkable life well-lived.
