Florence, SC Bobbie Strickland Bailey Shrader, 65, of Florence SC, died on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at McLeod Hospice House. Bobbie was born June 7, 1947, in Long Island, NY, to the late Prince and Ruby Wary Strickland. Due to her father being in the Air Force, Bobbie's family moved to Whiteville, NC, where she was raised. After high school, she pursued a career in health care and graduated as a radiologic technologist. After working in Lumberton, NC, for a few years, she and her son, Freddy, moved to Florence, SC. She had been hired to work in radiology at the new McLeod Regional Medical Center. It was here that Bobbie met her husband, Bruce. Several years later, she went into business on her own as a consultant to medical practices in North and South Carolina, assisting them with DHEC regulations and compliance. Bobbie was an avid fan of cooking and baking, "especially if someone else was going to eat it". An insatiable reader, she devoured 3 to 4 good books a week, passing the books on to others, with most destined for the Johnsonville library. She loved the theater, attending plays from Columbia to New York. She loved football and was a huge hockey fan. She never got to see Gretzky play, but did see Lemieux. She was an intelligent, organized, industrious and kind hearted individual who cared deeply for her family, and this family exceeded the bounds of only blood relatives. Bobbie will be sorely missed by everyone that had the privilege to know her. Bobbie passed from this life on the 23rd of February while she was in the company of her husband, Bruce. She is also survived by her son, Freddie; her cousins, Don and Jay Purkall; nephews, Shane Strickland and Michael Williamson, and several other cousins. A Celebration of Life service will be held at McLeod Hospice House in Florence on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at 2:00 PM.
