Betty Hamer Lewis, 86, of Florence, SC, died on Monday, August 10, 2015, at McLeod Hospice House. She was born in Dillon, SC, a daughter of the late Leroy Dewitt Hamer and Marie Thompson Hamer. She is also predeceased by her husband, Percy Lewis, Jr, who passed away in 1996. Betty was one of the founding members of College Park Baptist Church. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. She enjoyed playing bridge and penny canasta with her many friends. Betty and her husband, Percy, lived in Texas for 4 years and came to Florence when Stone Container opened here. When Percy died in 1996, he was General Manager of Stone Container. Betty is survived by her son, Percy St. Clair "Trey" Lewis, III and his wife Angela; her daughter, Ann. M. Lewis, all of Florence; her sister, Jean Galit of Pendleton, SC; two grandchildren, Jonathan Hamer Lewis and Hailey Lewis; many special nieces and nephews; and her beloved caretakers, Queen Bostick and Marie Hall, both of Timmonsville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Cain-Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at College Park Baptist Church in Florence with entombment to follow at Mount Hope Mausoleum, directed by Cain-Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home.
