Betty Ann Hamer Brown, 77, of Florence, SC, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Carolinas Hospital. She was born in Clio, SC, a daughter of the late Frank H. and Bessie Helms Hamer. She is also predeceased by a sister, Diane Hamer Gause. Betty graduated from Clio High School in 1958 and was enrolled in Nursing School when she met Jim Brown, the love of her life. They married in 1961 and soon after move to the Panama Canal Zone. In 1981, they moved back to SC residing in Florence. Betty was active with booster clubs of local sports teams in Florence. She was known as a caregiver for many in their time of need. She was loved by everyone she met, and she never met a stranger. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim N. Brown, Jr.; two children, Sharon Kay Brown of Greenville, SC and Jim Hillard Brown (Caroline) of Salt Lake City, Utah; one grandchild, Brandon Michael Brown; one "adopted" granddaughter, Olivia H. Naud; one nephew, Frank Curtis Gause (Christy) of Cheraw, SC; and two sisters-in-law, Bertie Mae Young of Carpenter, MS and Joree Anderson of Utica, MS. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2017 in the Chapel of Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home.
