Obituary

Darlington, SC Reverend Benjamin C. Riffe, 91, of Darlington, SC, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, at his residence. Born in West Virginia, he was a son of the late Frank George Riffe and Dorothy Mae Gibson Riffe. He is also predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Helen Norris Riffe, three sisters, Polly McBride, Lois Gross and Bertha Cecil, a brother, Carl Riffe, and a son in-law, Donald Long. Rev. Riffe was a part of our nation's greatest generation, having served as a combat veteran in the US Army during WWII, serving in the following foreign campaigns: Germany, France and Belgium. After his military service, he retired as a decorated Post Master, having worked at 3 different Post Offices in Maryland. He later went on to become a minister at Sykesville Church of God in Maryland. He was most recently a member of the Palmetto Street Church of God in Florence. He is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Sue (Dennis) Riordan of Florence, SC, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Terry) Goldman of GA, Benita Lynn Long of MD, and Christina Lynn (Jerry) Middleton of Darlington, SC; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 PM at Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home on Friday, April 22, 2016. A graveside will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 23, 2016, in the Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel, directed by Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, SC Chapter, 1039 44th Ave N, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
