IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bartley "Bart"
Paul Horne, Iii
June 20, 1962 – June 9, 2024
Bartley "Bart" Paul Horne, III, 61, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday June 9, 2024 from a long-term illness. Bart was born in Charlotte, NC, the son of the late Millicent Lourene Burley Banks, and of Bartley Paul Horne, Jr., step-mother Debby L. Horne. He is also predeceased by his step-father, Larry Banks.
Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Theresa Eileen Quinn Horne; his father and step-mother, Bartley Paul Horne, Jr. and Debby L. Horne; his step-son Leonard "Buddy" Roy Blake Jr.; his sister Mary Lourene Horne and her daughter Nastassia Zoe Bremer (Nathan); his brother John William Horne (Terri), and their son John B. Horne; Jessica Jacobs, and a number of extended family members.
Bart proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii, as well as in the National Guard and Reserves in Indiana. He worked in the restaurant industry to include being the Supervisor of the Catering department at Indiana University for many years, a Sous Chef at Joseph - Beth Restaurant and Bookstore, as well as a manager of numerous restaurants over the years including Shoney's restaurant in Florence, SC.
Bart was a die-hard table-top role-playing gamer and enjoyed creating many adventures with friends and family, as well as the many new friendships that developed over the years that were forged by the rolls of the dice. He loved the challenge of creating new adventures with puzzles for players to endure and figure out, making each game fun and exciting for everyone who played in his games. Bart also believed that life is an adventure, and through it's twists and turns, whatever came his way, he enjoyed the challenge of how to manage it, learn from it, and move on. He loved adventure and adrenaline of living on the edge like Boar Hunting and Surfing in Hawaii, his training as an Airborne Ranger, and too many other experiences he shared with us over the years.
Bart was so excited to be a dad and part of our family when we met in 1998, and we got married in 1999. Buddy who was 9 years old, was excited to have a dad in his life and they had a very special bond over the years. He was not only as an amazing dad, but a great friend, a teacher who shared his many years of wisdom and experiences, and a love of puns, jokes, music and movies, and world history. He shared his knowledge of what he had learned and experienced from working around the world during his time in the U.S. Army.
Bart was a wonderful husband who kept me laughing over the years, the love of my life, and my best friend! I have so many great memories, stories we shared, places we traveled, games we played, and the life we experienced together, even though his medical problems were many, we persevered through it all, worked together to help him every day to enjoy the time we had together until his recent passing! He will be in our hearts and thoughts forever, and will certainly be missed by many!
