Barbara Lucille Sawyer Carper Florence, SC Barbara Lucille Sawyer Carper, 92, of Florence, formerly of Virginia Beach and Suffolk, VA, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Methodist Manor after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Carper was born in Pasquotank, NC, a daughter of the late John Mark and Lydia Mae Sawyer Sawyer. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Faith having been a member of the UMW. After moving to Florence, she became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Mrs. Carper was an excellent cook, who loved preparing meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed participating in church activities and reading her Bible every day. She is preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her husband, John Marvin Carper. Surviving are two children, Arlene Carper (Jan) Kozyra of Florence, SC and Michael (Janet) Carper of Murfreesboro, TN; four grandchildren, Tracy Kozyra of Florence, Barbara (Adilio) DaSilva of Myrtle Beach, SC. Adam Carper of Woodbridge, VA, and Brian (Jennifer) Carper of Murfreesboro, TN; a sister, Stella Sawyer Harris of Chesapeake, VA; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, July 24, 2014 in the chapel at the Methodist Manor, in Florence, SC, directed by Cain Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in Rosewood Memorial Park, directed by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, VA. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul UMC Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
