Annie Valeria McRae Calianno, age 87, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, after a brief illness. She was born February 24, 1929 in Florence, SC the daughter of David Delmus McRae and Gladys Martin McRae. She was first married to Donald Woodhead and had three children: Dana Woodhead, Gladys Gilileo, and David Calianno. Her second marriage to Nicholas Calianno expanded the family to include one step-son, and three step-daughters: Rocky, Donna, Carol and Sharon. Annie was referred to by many nicknames and terms of endearment, including: "Valeria", "Val", "Anne", "the Baby", "mother", "ma", "mom", "grandma", "great-grandma", "Silly Girl", and "Soul Mama." She was truly loved by all that knew her. Annie spent twenty-seven and one-half years serving as a proud employee of General Telephone Company (GTE). During her tenure, she held many positions in various departments. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and brother, David "Snookie" McRae. She is survived by: her brother, Tommy McRae; her sons; daughter; and their spouses, "Shug", DeeDee, and Christine. She is also survived by her step-children and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Surviving grandchildren include: Suzanne, Amy, Jennifer, Chris, Kama, Jami, and Brittany, as well as 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Celebration of Life services are Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2pm at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Auburndale, FL. Graveside services are February 11, 2017 at 11am at Mount Hope Cemetery, Florence, SC, directed by Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home.
The family would like to add a special note of thanks to the incredible ICU staff at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center for providing compassionate care for Annie in her last moments with family.
