Obituary

Ann Darwin Vaughan Haynes, 86, of Florence, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House.  She was born on September 2, 1938, and was a lifelong resident of Florence, South Carolina where she married and lived with the love of her life, the late Harold B. Haynes, Sr. her childhood sweetheart.

Ann lived an extraordinary life serving others. A 1956 graduate of McClenaghan High School in Florence, she later retired from working as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant to care for and raise her only child, Bruce.  A sacrificial and empathetic caregiver, Ann provided years of devoted and loving care to her beloved husband, mother, and father, and also to her uncles and mother-in-law when they endured years of illnesses.

When Ann was not busy serving her family, she enjoyed a bountiful life.  She was an avid gardener and likely to be found outside with her hands in the soil on a warm Spring and Summer day.  When the weather cooled in the Fall, her attention turned to a love she shared with her husband, cheering on the Clemson Tigers.  Ann and Harold loved to go shag dancing, especially at the beach. And no matter the season, she rejoiced over and was happy to share with you the academic, musical and athletic exploits of her three beloved grandchildren. She loved her savior Jesus Christ, and was a member of College Park Baptist Church.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Haynes, Sr., and her parents, Herbert Darwin Vaughan and Annie Roney Edgerton Vaughan, all of Florence. She is survived by her son Harold Bruce Haynes, Jr. (Catherine) of McLean, Virginia, and her three beloved grandchildren, Walker Thomason Haynes of Greenville, South Carolina, Lawson Edgerton Haynes of Los Angeles, California and Caroline Woodfin Haynes of McLean, Virginia, two nephews and a niece.
